RE: 93' Lance 900 Dometic Refrigerator

I think you might need to replace the cooling unit, an expensive venture at around $600. Non use is the biggest problem for an RV fridge. It needs to be used periodically to keep the amonia solution in the cooling unit from solidifying and blocking the passages. You can have a tech troubleshoot the unit for you which would be the most cost effective form of finding the problem. I have ran into the same problem and had my cooling unit replaced with a remanufactured one. Worked great ever since.

RE: White crust/nodules in hotwater tank-Update !

Bill, the white stuff is what's left of your anode rod after electrolisis eats it. The rod is made of magnesium and the electrolisis attacks the magnesium instead of the tank liner. I used the thin metal wire (What's left after your anode rod is consumed) to break up the white stuff, then flushed it out of the anode rod hole. Replace your anode rod with a new one and your ready to go.

RE: I've lost 12V power to my camper.

Technically, teb1272 and yourself both mentioned a fuse when it fact it was a breaker. :B Just kidding. Lol. All help and guidance is appreciated. I wanted to come back and tell what was wrong in case someone finds this in the archives and gets to the end and there's no fix. That would suck.

RE: I've lost 12V power to my camper.

DesertMike nailed it. There is a breaker attached to the back side of the battery box, underneath my sink. It was right in front of my face and it took me several hours of "screwing with it" to find the breaker. The reset was a little nub the size of a pencil eraser that I couldn't see in the dark. I am now back in business. Thanks guys.

RE: I've lost 12V power to my camper.

I don't know which wire sparked, just that there was a spark. Directly after the spark, I lost all 12V power to all appliances and lights in the camper. Thanks guys, off to the auto parts store I go for a test light.

I've lost 12V power to my camper.

The camper is a Lance 1996 990 legend. I recently replaced the old magnatek converter with an intellapower 9200 using instructions from this site and it has worked great. I was working on mounting the original panel cover and shorted out a wire (I believe on the 12V out from the converter) and lost all 12V power to the camper. All the breakers are set and the fuses aren't blown unless there are some hidden that I can't find. I had the new converter checked out and it works fine, producing 13.6 volts. Can anyone give me pointers on what to check next?

RE: Onan runs with start button pushed only

Been down your road and threw some parts at it to no avail. It could be as simple as the oil switch and that is the first thing to check, along with the voltage regulator, circuit board, stator, rotor, slip rings, brushes. Yeah, that about covers it. take it in or get a repair manual.

RE: Is $1350 acceptable for rotor/stator replacement in onan?

I just got the lowdown on parts cost. Another onan dealer quoted me $1150 for the stator, rotor, and a new voltage regulator alone with no installation. He recommended the voltage regulator be replaced along with the rotor/stator because it's a %50 chance the voltage regulator is on it's last legs when the rotor/stator goes out. As of now, I am junking the generator and will buy a honda or yamaha 3000 watt portable to replace it. The generator service guy seemed to think highly of the onan brand and mentioned that poor maintainance is the biggest reason most generators fail. Specifically the run speed.

RE: Is $1350 acceptable for rotor/stator replacement in onan?

I have removed the generator from the camper and delivered it to the rv dealership. I wanted to know if the price I was quoted was in line with others as I seem to remember a member here had his rotor replaced for $500. I will get a quote on the parts and if it is indeed a couple of hundred or less in parts, I will repair the generator myself. I already have the repair manual. I will be one pissed off customer if the majority of that cost is labor. I think the $1350 is an outrageous cost even if it was with removal from the coach. Mine has been removed already so the hard part is done.

Is $1350 acceptable for rotor/stator replacement in onan?

I started to dig into my propane onan 2500LP generator and gave up. I don't have the necessary tools or space so I bit the bullet and took it into a local RV dealership who is an authorized onan repair facility. It has been diagnosed as needing a new rotor and stator and the charge will be $1350. I thought this an extremely high quote and wanted to double check with the fine folks here. At this point, I will be better off buying a Yamaha or Honda 3000 watt generator. My other option is to pick up the generator in pieces as is and take it to a friends shop where we have the space and tools to replace the stator/rotor on my own. Onan model# 2.5kv-fa/26120g Serial# A980668005 Pulled from a 1996 lance camper.

RE: Class V and Lance 1161

How long is your extension? The longest that reese sells is the 48" and it sticks well out past my legend 990. A hitch or muffler shop might be able to cut one to length but the safety factor comes in. How heavy is the boat?

RE: Drilled a hole in my freshwater tank. How to plug/patch?

The last update: No leaks to speak of after driving 30 miles round trip to dump the tanks. I have glued the bottom rail as well as the two uprights and stapled the joints. Insulation is back in and the aluminum is back on. This problem has been fixed and I have no qualms about the repair. Again thanks to all who helped and especially Snow Rivers Bob Mehrer. Ben

RE: Lance 990 generator exhaust

On my 96 990, the tail pipe sticks directly out the back on the right hand side of the bumper. There is a piece of flex tubing used to make the 90 degree angle and another muffler after the flex tube. The entire assembly is mounted on rubber straps that deaden vibration. I would take pictures but the generator is removed right now for repair.

RE: Tire recommendations for Tundra

My Dad has over 50K on his load range D BFG AT tires. They are a great tire and should see the low side of 80K if he pushes it.

RE: Drilled a hole in my freshwater tank. How to plug/patch?

Thank you Chet. Wayne, I have never had the problem before and the water pump has given me no problems to date. I assumed that the pump drained out when I emptied the tank. I did pump water through the system as well as open the fresh water drain to get the water out faster so the pump was pumped dry. If I do need a new water pump or rebuild kit, it shouldn't be a problem to install.

RE: Drilled a hole in my freshwater tank. How to plug/patch?

There is a full 46 gallons of water in the fresh water tank and not a sign of any leaks after an hour. It will be left overnight then driven around a bit to test the tank. If everything looks good, then I button her back up and call it good. Something to note. The waterpump lost it's prime and I found a novel way of re-priming it. I contorted my head around and sucked on the open sink faucet while the water pump was turned on. I had to try a few times as once I thought it was primed, I would let go and the water would drain back down. Another something to note. I have almost no experience with repairing RV's and only basic hand tool knowledge. All the tools needed to do this repair are probobly in your toolbox so there is really no reason not to try it. This would cost well over $200 at an RV repair facility to fix and they would probobly talk you into removing/replacing the tank instead. A service that would be well over $500. I am very happy I took on the repair and with the help of Bob Mehrer, Sleepy, and several other posters, I got the job done right. Thanks again to all that were involved. Ben

RE: Drilled a hole in my freshwater tank. How to plug/patch?

I temporarily installed the bottom rail with the 5 screws left from removing the old rail. I needed to move the camper to fill the tank with water and wanted the support of the bottom rail for the tank. When I have determined to my satisfaction that the wellnut has indeed sealed the hole, I will properly re-install the bottom rail with glue and possibly corrugated angle fasteners. Wear gloves when screwing the screws in. I have removed much of the skin off of 3 knuckles. :E http://www.glamisdunes.com/invision/gallery_imgs/1209868055/med_gallery_4_84_110618.jpg http://www.glamisdunes.com/invision/gallery_imgs/1209868055/med_gallery_4_84_42811.jpg

RE: Drilled a hole in my freshwater tank. How to plug/patch?

This is the wellnut Bob Mehrer from Snow River sent out. It's a very slick little piece of hardware that makes this type of repair a breeze to fix. As the stainless steel screw is tightened, brass threads on the end are brought in, causing the neoprene rubber to bulge out and seal the hole. The hole needed to be enlarged to 5/8" and the wellnut is a pretty snug fit loose. When tightened a bit, the wellnut is solidly locked in the hole. http://www.glamisdunes.com/invision/gallery_imgs/1209868055/med_gallery_4_84_117128.jpg http://www.glamisdunes.com/invision/gallery_imgs/1209868055/med_gallery_4_84_89986.jpg http://www.glamisdunes.com/invision/gallery_imgs/1209868055/med_gallery_4_84_146542.jpg

RE: Drilled a hole in my freshwater tank. How to plug/patch?

Hi Wayne, I am still waiting on the plug. Coming all the way from Canada. I picked up screws and the piece of lumber I will need at home depot yesterday so everything is set to be put back together. I will of course follow up with pics and step by step info, especially of the wellnut.

RE: Honda generator Rust in Carb

I wonder where the rust came from seeing as the tank is plastoc and the carb aluminum and brass. Your mech is a fool. Compressed air and carb cleaner have cleaned out any carb I have tried to work on. Shop rate is about $80 an hour these days so he might figure your cheaper with a new carb.
